My name is Martyn John Schickerling and I am a qualified practicing visual artist currently working as a sculptor’s assistant and foundry man at DSW. I studied Fine Art and specialised in both sculpture and glassblowing. At this stage of my life I am attempting to plant my roots in the local art scene as a new and fresh artist. My work mainly focuses on my personal struggle with anxiety and dealing with my difficult past. I come from a broken home thus there is a lot of pain and anger that I was forced to deal with. This almost automatically shows in my work. I do not aim to make something decorative or pretty, my aim is to move the viewer out of their comfort zone into my subconscious realm of emotional turmoil. I enjoy working with mild steel and bronze and truly enjoy painting and drawing. The morphing and distortion, twists, turns and turmoil in the structures express a tension and balance between chaos and order and their co-dependency.
